How to Vet the Quality of AI Writing

Hey Fellow Case Writers!

In today’s world, AI-generated content is becoming more prevalent. While it's efficient and often accurate, it's still essential to evaluate the quality of writing generated by AI. Below, I’ll walk you through a simple process to vet AI writing and provide you with prompt templates to use. These tools will help you assess the quality of the text and ensure it meets the required standards.

Why Vet AI Writing?

AI-generated content is a powerful tool, but it’s not perfect. While it can produce clear and concise text, it may also include factual errors, awkward phrasing, or miss the emotional tone that human readers expect. That’s why a review process is essential.

Process to Vet AI Writing:

Step 1: Check for Factual Accuracy

AI-generated text can sometimes create false or inaccurate information. Always cross-reference any factual claims against trusted sources. Here’s a simple prompt you can use to get the AI to fact-check itself:

Prompt Template:

Please verify the factual accuracy of the following text. Highlight any sections that may require fact-checking: [Insert AI-generated text here]. I want the Facts that are in the case to be Bolded and the Fictitious or fake filler information to be italicized with the critical information to cite in [Brackets]

Step 2: Evaluate Clarity and Structure

Good writing should be clear and well-organized. If the AI-generated text seems confusing or disjointed, ask it to clarify or rewrite for improved structure.

Prompt Template:

Can you review the structure and clarity of the following text? Reorganize any sentences or paragraphs that could be clearer: [Insert AI-generated text here]. Make sure that if you reorganize or change anything that the tell me and document is so that I can confirm is the meaning or context I had initially meant, is still present.

Step 3: Tone and Voice Adjustment

Different audiences require different tones. If the AI output feels too formal, too casual, or not in the right voice, you can adjust it using specific prompts.

Prompt Template:

Please rewrite the following text to be more [formal/casual/professional/inclusive/friendly]: [Insert AI-generated text here] Once you have completed this, make sure to guide me for what I should be thinking about next for this work.

Step 4: Grammar and Spelling Check

Although AI is generally good at grammar, it’s important to double-check for errors. You can use this prompt for quick corrections:

Prompt Template:

Please check the grammar, spelling, and punctuation of the following text and make corrections as necessary: [Insert AI-generated text here] When you make any corrections, always put a summary table of the correction and adjustment after the writing for my reference to check.

Step 5: Consistency in Style and Formatting

Ensure that the AI-generated text follows a consistent style guide, especially if you are working on long-form content like reports or articles. Consistency in tone, tense, and terminology is key to maintaining professionalism.

Prompt Template:

Please review the following text for consistency in style, tone, and formatting, ensuring that terms, tense, and style remain uniform throughout: [Insert AI-generated text here] If there is no clear connection or lineage of content, make sure to ask me for more examples so that you can better understand and continue with the consistency needed.

Advanced Prompts for Comprehensive Review:

You can also use more comprehensive prompts to get the AI to assess the overall quality of the writing.

Prompt Template:

Please review the following text and evaluate it based on:

  1. Coherence

  2. Tone

  3. Readability

  4. Style consistency

  5. Factual accuracy

Provide specific feedback for improvement. [Insert AI-generated text here]

Tips for Effective AI Writing Review:

  1. Use Multiple Tools: Don’t rely on AI alone for fact-checking or grammar corrections—use human review and additional tools like Grammarly or fact-checking websites.

  2. Break Large Texts into Sections: For long-form content, review the writing section by section. This allows for a more detailed and thorough analysis.

  3. Use Different AI Models for Comparison: Sometimes using a second AI model to generate the same text can offer a useful comparison point for assessing quality.

  4. Ask for Human Feedback: If the content is critical, have a human reviewer weigh in. AI is great, but a human perspective can catch things machines miss or improperly structure. Review is crucial for assessing critical thinking, originality, and in-depth analysis.

Closing Thoughts:

AI-generated writing is a fantastic asset, but it should always be vetted for quality. By following the process outlined here and using the prompt templates provided, you’ll be able to assess and improve the quality of AI writing effectively.
